LK Solar respects your privacy. This policy explains what personal information we collect when you visit lksolar.co.za, contact us or use our services, how we use it, and your rights under the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA).

1. Who we are

LK Solar is the responsible party for your personal information.

2. What information we collect

  • When you use our contact form: your name, email address, the subject you choose and your message.
  • When you phone, WhatsApp or email us: your name, contact details and anything you tell us about your enquiry.
  • When we quote for or do work for you: your name, contact details and the address where the work is done, details about your property, electricity use and existing system, photos of the installation, and the information needed for compliance paperwork, such as the electrical Certificate of Compliance and registering a grid-connected system with Centlec or Eskom.
  • When you visit our website: our hosting provider automatically records basic technical information, such as your IP address, browser type and the pages you visit, to keep the website running and secure.

Giving us your information is voluntary, but we cannot reply to your enquiry, give you a quote or do work for you without your contact details.

3. How we use your information

  • To reply to your enquiry and give you a quote.
  • To plan, carry out, invoice and follow up on work we do for you, including warranty and maintenance.
  • To prepare compliance documents and registrations for your installation.
  • To meet our legal obligations, for example tax and accounting record-keeping.
  • To keep our website working and secure.

We do not sell your personal information, and we will not send you marketing messages unless you have agreed to receive them.

4. Who we share it with

We only share your information when it is needed for the purposes above:

  • Your electricity supplier (Centlec or Eskom) or the municipality, when registering or connecting your system.
  • Equipment suppliers and manufacturers, for warranty claims.
  • Our accountant, for invoicing and tax.
  • Service providers who help us run our business, such as our website host and our email provider.
  • Authorities, when the law requires us to.

5. Information stored outside South Africa

Our email is provided by Google (Gmail), and our website loads fonts from Google Fonts, which means your IP address is shared with Google when you view our pages. Google may store this information on servers outside South Africa. We use these providers because they are bound by data protection terms that give your information a level of protection similar to POPIA.

6. Cookies and tracking

Our website does not use analytics, advertising or tracking cookies. WordPress only sets cookies if you log in to the website, which visitors do not need to do.

7. How we protect your information

We take reasonable technical and organisational steps to keep your information safe, including using a secure (HTTPS) connection on our website and limiting access to the people who need it.

8. How long we keep it

We keep enquiry information only for as long as we need it to deal with your enquiry. Records of work we have done, such as quotes, invoices and compliance certificates, are kept for as long as the law requires, which is at least five years for tax records. After that, we delete or destroy them.

9. Your rights

Under POPIA you have the right to:

  • ask whether we hold personal information about you, and ask for a copy of it;
  • ask us to correct or delete information that is inaccurate, out of date or no longer needed;
  • object to us using your information, or withdraw your consent where we rely on it;
  • lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator.

We may update this policy from time to time. The latest version will always be on this page, with the date it was last updated at the top.
